I’ve always said, if I could time travel, the first thing I’d do is go back and see all my family when they were much younger. Then, I’d hit as many concerts as possible of my favs in their primes, such as The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Queen, Jimi Hendrix, and much, much more.
There's nothing like going to a stadium jam-packed with a bunch of strangers, paying for over-priced booze, smelling the smoke in the air and getting that contact high (or smoking directly), checking out the outfits, people watching, and hearing your favourite band perform live right before your eyes. So I thought I’d catalogue all the concerts and events I’ve been to throughout the years chronologically. I’ve tried to document them all, but there are a few stubs I’ve misplaced.
I’ve also seen tons of bands at the Calgary Stampede Coca-Cola Stage. In fact, my very first concert was Steppenwolf there on Friday, July 12, 1996. That was the first concert that my friends and I actively seeked out. Honestly, I can’t recall all the concerts at the Coke Stage after that, but from what I remember, I saw Matthew Good, 54-40, Blue Rodeo, Big Wreck, Lifehouse, Sam Roberts, OK Go, Odds, Our Lady Peace, Sloan, Big Sugar, Moist, Plain White T’s, and probably much more.
After Steppenwolf, my desire to see more live acts began. My very first stadium concert was AC/DC at the Saddledome on Saturday, August 10th, 1996, during their Ballbreaker tour. It was only one month after seeing my first live rock show Steppenwolf at the Coke Stage. I was 17, and I remember camping out at the Marlborough Mall Sears overnight to buy tickets, as back in the day, you couldn’t buy tickets online and had to go into a Ticketmaster outlet physically. My four buds and I parked outside Sears as the tiny Ticketmaster booth was located inside the Sears in the mall. We camped in my friend’s car overnight, waiting in a line of other ticket buyers to get tickets as soon as it opened up in the morning.
I have many good memories from that night as we had a ton of fun, but the concert blew my mind! AC/DC put on one helluva show with explosions, fire, canons, and tons of energy. It was an incredible first show to expose me to the world of live music. But look at the price I paid in 1996… $37! Insane! $37 to see AC/DC!!
The following stubs are in chronological order. Links below each ticket stub include the videos and pictures I took at that specific concert and if available, the set lists for that night:
EVENTS
The following stubs are events I've attended. There's also a few I've missed here too, such as Craig Ferguson, over ten years of the Calgary International Beerfest, Reggaefest, the Alberta Oyster Festival, Oktoberfest 2013 & 2015, Grape Escape, Body Worlds Edmonton, the Big Rock Eddies in 2006, a few years of the Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo, Slide the City 2015 & 2016, numerous Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) performances, and tons of Theatre Calgary plays when I was younger. I don't count sports events here as I've been to an insane amount, and categorizing those would be ludicrous.
